As some of you know Ed and I are both currently tuned with the Vishnu Xede engine control unit. I just thought I would post a little review on this. I have been running this system for awhile but have never had any problems with it. Rescently I had a number of mods installed and had my car retuned, Ed was also retuned the same day. We both picked up pretty descent power gains. I will be the first to say I do like this product, however it is far from flawless. Since the tune, both me and Ed have thrown engine lights and I know Ed has had some misfire issues. I do not know if this is a problem with the mapping or tuning or the control unit. All I can say is I did not have problems until this recent tune. I get all of my work done at Dyno4mance in Calhoun, GA. I do not believe there is anyone I trust more with my Evo then Andrew, the owner. I hope to get the tune adjusted and hopefully have everything working well again. On a scale of 1-10 I would put it at about a 8 when its working the way its supposed to and a 6 the way it is working at the moment. If anyone has any questions about this path of tuning I would be more than happy to answer them. I am still pleased with the numbers my car put down, just not the way it throws the engine light. If I can get this corrected I will be pleased. I know Ed is als not currently satisfied with his tune.

I agree Andrew is top notch :D .
Although I went with a re-flash for my Evo, like most Xede owners have found out with ECUflash now available there really is no need anymore for a piggyback unit. With my Dynoflash I have never had a problem and it runs like stock in all conditions and with ECUflash I can now access all if not more than what the benefits would have been with and Xede.

how much did the ECUflash cost you? Also through that can you also raise your boost lvl etc? I know stock setting for boost is around 19psi, I am currently running 24psi. If my car would run better and still get the same hp gains I would seriously consider making a switch.

when i first started modding my car i got a mail in flash from vishnu. was great at first, got some really good gains besides the codes it was throwing out. but because of the distance that i live away from there now being stationed in NC in the army i couldnt go see him to often.............(ANdrew that is, and yes he is one of the smartest guys on the evo that i have met yet). but as of recently or before i was sent to iraq i used cobb tuning and i tune myself now. so far so good since you can tune for anything you decide to do, even without a dyno. but always recommend dyno for exact parameters when tuning.......just my 2 cents

ECUFlash is available to control boost via the stock boost solenoid. Check this link out:

I've thought about ditching my Xede and going full ECUFlash, but I'm gonna hang onto it for a bit longer I think. Mainly for when I get my methanol kit in for lean-run protection, to control it, fine increment timing adjustments, etc.

i use ecuflash to tune my car, and i love it $95 bucks for the cable and downloaded program which is free, and u got the whole ECU right there, control boost, lauch limiter, pretty much anything that u need, and evoscan which is an logging program for $25, watch knock and timing advance at what rpm , and pretty much log everything also, can even hook up ur wideband to evoscan.

ill give shiv a try on the 18th, if he chooses to help us, sweet, if not, im taking it off and going another route. im thinking ecuflash since everyone is liking it.

Im Jestr tuned using ECUflash love it too. If your looking to get a full custom tune from a local shop (dyno4mance or TopSpeed) you can use ECUflash or Ecutek. I hear Ecutek is better, but im not sure why...? If anyone locally just wants to do an Eflash from Jestr or Dynoflash ya'll are free to use my cable. Just PM me and let me know.

Old friend of mine from Jamaica who's now in Jersey and runs a 540hp daily driven EvoVIII plus a couple drag cars. He's certified/trained for Ecutek, Ecuflash, Motec and a bunch of others. His recommendation for me was to go ECUflash. For what it's worth he actually said Topspeed's Doug was pretty decent .
Check out his site at http://www.iveytune.com
Maybe I can get him to stop over on one of his trips down to Ja. or Miami to do something jointly with Doug.

The only was I will switch is if I have assurance that I will make the same or more power and have my car running better than it is now. Otherwise I would be spending alot of money for nothing.

u can make the same power or even more power with ECUflash, as long as you have a good tuner, i've heard of cars up to 400-500hp on stock ECU using ECUflash to tune.

i'll take a look at anybodies ECU as long as they have the laptop, i have a cable just not a laptop yet  ,lol

only on Evo 8's the 9's ECu is alittle different and i haven't played with it as much yet. then we can log the car and make sure everything is on the safe side,

also i won't change your fuel map if you don't have a wideband, just change your timing and a few other things nice power boost, well i could tell by the butt dyno there was more power when i did mine. more then i did the exhaust, o and for free to u guys i couldn't charge and then justify that.

Do you throw any engine codes? Im still wondering how I am going to pass emissions this year... I am somewhat reluctant to mess with my tuning because of how much money I have already spent on it.

alg626
03-16-2007, 09:28 AM
no i don't, i've never had an engine code, i have a test pipe with the $5 mechanical fix with the spark plug anti-fouler. cheap and easy fix instead of buying the o2 simulator which is about $100 i believe, ECU flash is easy to work with

I throw the P0300 code, random/multiple cylinder misfire, very common code with the Evo. I don't know how to fix it. Im not actually misfiring. I need to get it taken care of so I can pass emissions next month... Ideas?

alg626

mine did it right when i got it, took it to the dealership and they did it for free,

03-16-2007, 05:26 PM
they did your emissions or fixed the P0300?

I think they do it with a reflash, if I have them do this, will it affect my tuning at all?

alg626
03-16-2007, 05:40 PM
i dont think so, but not sure

u have an piggyback which kinda tricks the ECU into whatever the fuel curve and timing the tuner wants, the actuall car ecu still has factory tuning on it, the piggyback fulls it, so it shouldn't hurt your tuning, and i've hear guys from evom.net say that it shouldn't either

sounds good enough to me, i may stop by a mitsu dealership next week

i've only thrown 2 codes. one was from the test pipe before i got a simulator and the second one was after i installed the O2 housing and LICP. i hit boost-cut afterwards and the check engine light came on. i never got a chance to read it, but i could tell my evo was in a "limp mode". i reset the light by unplugin the battery and it ran better when i drove smooth. it had slow acceleration in high rpm's tho. after i put the factory housing back ot it was alright throughout the power band. anyways i have ECUflash too. haven't tweaked anything but i finally got my ROM onto my laptop. the MIVEC map is pretty cool. ECUflash even provides a section to tune your exhaust cam as well.

sounds like the second code you got was the p0300, which is what ryan and i have. what do you think ryan?

drtyIX
03-30-2007, 12:17 AM
a misfire code? i thought maybe it was an over boost code. is there such a code? it was the first time i've thrown a code when i hit boost-cut. it was really cold out so i think that might have added to the reason i boosted so high.

YSLBTT
03-30-2007, 12:18 AM
im not sure. i know there is a list of codes out there.

drtyIX

i know the cat delete code runs a "limp mode". fuel mileage falls a lot and power is lost.

03-30-2007, 09:35 AM
yeah what u hit dylan was boost cut due to the new o2 housing, sometimes will casue boost creep and then bam, scare the crap out of ya,

next time we're together if u got an laptop i can fix the boost cut for u, or email your rom and i can fix it for u now, i'll pm u my email address ok

quite possibly the p0300 even if it was fuel cut. p0300 is a very common code for the Evo, sucks major ass if you ask me

The P0300 code will throw when you hit fuel cut cause its basically a major mis-fire. A really loud mis-fire...

not always a major misfire, i got it and didn't even hardly fell the misfire when i was still stock, the code will throw even on the smallest misfire, what dylan hit was boost cut from the mods and it being colder outside, there pretty much the same thing as the engine stops fuel going to the cylinder either code, i was hitting boost cut also until i fixed it, never did hit it until i got the mods, full 3" exhaust TB, header, and boost controller

ryan found something very interesting yesterday, and its basically a fuel ignition system i think, and it is supposed to fix it.

problem that happens, according to the evom forum, is that when the boost is turned up, the ignition system basically is trying to do too much, and the spark plugs basically dont ignite or something, making it misfire. there is this ignition system which fixes that, according to many users from evom. hks makes one, and ther eis another company ryan said makes it too. the hks one is known to have problems, and the other is flawless as they say. ryan will test it out, and if it works im buying it.

and it's dyno proven to give you 8awhp 9 tq.

its around 300 bucks. + install which shouldnt be too hard. maybe an hour labor

drtyIX
04-02-2007, 09:47 PM
couldn't that problem also be fixed by tuning the ignition tables/maps?

YSLBTT
04-02-2007, 09:56 PM
no, the problem is our ignition system.
