Dan, this thread is regarding the conversation we had during the meet on Sunday. I know we talked briefly about flywheel weights. I just thought you would be interested to know the OEM flywheel weight is 13.4 pounds. I'm not sure what your ACT weight is. Does it still feel like it is dragging a bit? I thought this would be a nice thread for everyone to post up all known flywheel weights. Here's my contribution.

13.4 lbs OEM Flywheel
7.5 lbs Carbonetic Single
7.9 lbs Carbonetic Twin/Triple
13.1 ACT street
10.1 ACT pro

dang thats a big difference in weight, wonder if the X is the same weight?

I read something interesting about this the other day. Seems most cars have a flywheel weighing somewhere between 21 and 24 lbs. but the evo has an already light flywheel comparatively at around 13 lbs. Just thought it was interesting.

Yes 13lbs are light. Porsche's Dual mass flywheels are heavy as poo!!!

Exactly, that's why doing a lightweight flywheel on an Evo doesnt make a huge difference. With that in mind, I would still do one, lol.

13.1 for the street
10.1 for the pro.

I think Dan went with the Street? I wasn't there but is he having problems? He had the same combo I was looking at going with as soon as I get the funds for it...

I also did some research after our conversation Ryan. I read that the OEM flywheel is somewhere between 13.4 to 13.7 lbs. Tvric is correct with his weights and I did get the Streetlite flywheel, which is 13.1 lbs. We all know that a lighter flywheel doesn't add any power but it does allow a quicker decrease in rpms and of course a lighter rotating mass should increase the longevity in parts. The small problem, I'm not even sure it's a problem maybe just an observation, that I'm having is that when I start up my car it seems like it takes a little longer to catch. I just changed the battery so I know it's not that. And it started after the new clutch went in. It has more of a sluggish feel to it.

BTW, a little off topic, but I finally finished my break in period of my clutch and I can finally get on it. I also got 26 mpg (330 miles on a tank of gas) on my drive up here because I had to stay out of the boost.

I would definitely recommend this setup. It's a great price for what is offered and I have none of those problems that everybody complains about. I seriously think that it is all about the installation. I got mine for $729 shipped. If you can find a cheaper price then that, I commend you.

The issues you have could be from the clutch itself and not the flywheel ... the clutch assembly is also rotating mass.

Does the clutch/flywheel rotate when you first turn on the car with the clutch pushed in?

Yes. The flywheel is bolted to the crank and the pressure plate is bolted to the flywheel. The clutch disc is sandwiched in between. When you depress the clutch pedal, the flywheel and pressure plate disengage from the transmission and spin with the engine while the clutch disc spins seperately with the transmission.

So, basically, main rotating engine mass = crank, flywheel and pressure plate (in free rev). You've also got pullies, alternator, water pump, cams, balancer, rods, pistons and some other things dragging the engine down, but are more friction components than rotating mass. Some are both ...

With the clutch engaged, the entire drivetrain becomes rotating mass ... transmission, rotors, wheels, tires, driveshaft, differentials, etc.

BTW, Gruppe-S flywheel is 13.0 lb.

I just shaved my stock flywheel to 13.2-13.3 pounds
